Why World Heart Day?
World Heart Day is observed on 29 September every year. It was
established by the World Heart Federation (WHF) in 1999 with the aim
of raising global awareness about cardiovascular diseases, the
leading cause of death worldwide, responsible for nearly 18 million deaths annually.
This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of paying close attention to heart health,
never ignoring warning signs, and committing to regular check-ups and a heart-healthy
lifestyle.
The Heart: The Engine of Life
The heart is the vital organ that supplies the body with oxygen-rich blood and
essential nutrients. It works tirelessly from the first moment of life until the last,
beating about 100,000 times a day and pumping nearly
7,500 liters of blood through an extensive network of blood vessels.
Any disruption in heart health directly affects all other organs, making heart care
essential for overall well-being and disease prevention.
